SERENGETI NATONAL PARK
The wider Serengeti ecoregion, which covers 12,000 square miles and has a number of smaller game reserves, includes Serengeti National Park (30,000 square kilometers). The park spans 5,700 square miles in total (14,750 sq km). The Maasai term for “never-ending land” is whence the Serengeti gets its name. The “endless plains” is another name for the region. These landscapes include woodlands, riverine forests, and grassland plains. Despite being primarily wide plains, the park’s elevation varies from 3,000 to 6,000 feet (914 to 1,828 m). The rock formations have lions on them, which brings to mind “The Lion King.”
When visiting Tanzania, a visit to the Serengeti, the Ngorongoro Crater, and Mount Kilimanjaro is practically required. Mostly always, visitors will encounter all three of these at once. The wildlife migrations between the Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater are mutually beneficial. The three regions that make up the park are separated by the national park’s boundaries. The Serengeti grasslands serve as the main breeding ground for wildebeest. Another choice is a western corridor with savannahs coated in black clay. Animals found in this region include crocodiles and hippopotamuses. One of the greatest spots to watch hippos in this area is the neighboring hippo pool.
Other predators to be on the lookout for include African wild dogs, cheetahs, and hyenas in addition to lions and leopards. The majority of the park’s predator species are probably visible because the area is so open. As a general rule, watch out for a convoy of safari cars traveling in search of lions or leopards. The greatest undisturbed animal migration in the Serengeti is a must-see for any wildlife enthusiast. This year’s migration includes more than 1.3 million wildebeest, 250,000 zebra, 500 gazelles, and tens of thousands of other species. The migration was designated as one of Africa’s Seven Natural Wonders as a result.
